S&W Cage Installs? Empty S&W Cage Installs?

Post by LIL QIK Fri Aug 26, 2011 11:33 am

Has anyone here used an S&W cage for there S10's. Curious as to how the fit was and would love some pics if you have them. I'm trying to figure out if it will be fine with no changes.....or if I need to continue on with the idea of a custom install....

I've noticed Spohn sell cages for the S10's and they offer through the dash and drop down before the dash. But then I also noticed that they are S&W's...

    Thanks...Dave

I am pretty sure most cages will require some fabrication to work. I will see if I can dig some stuff up. Whats the price on one of those kits?

The kits are fairly cheap. Around 250 for the mild steel and around 400 for the chrome moly. But I've been digging up a lot of information on 8.50 certifications and checking out a lot of other cages from S10Racing forums....and thinking it might not be as bad as I thought on doing our own. Just need to figure out which bender I want to go with and go from there. My biggest problem was not being aware of what some of the requirements are...but I'm now finding the necessary resources with that info. So I'll probably just go ahead and go the route of a custom install....and hope it's good enough.... Shocked

The comp engineering cages are very price friendly and require fabrication just like any. I can get them local at a really good price if interested.

i talked to s&w and they said the only thing you have to modify/cut are the legs. they leave them long so you can set the height and get the cage as snug as you want. i personally couldnt find a better deal than those for a s10

I just installed a S&W cage in my 04 neon with my Lincoln 140hd, and had very little cutting to do. All the bends were pretty good and no exra bends were needed......Well I would have liked to bend the bars passing from the roll bar to the front floor but thats about it. Well worth the $430 shipped to my door for a ten point. Shipping was $130 alone. I only installed the 6 point section...

This probably wouldn't pass a NHRA inspection due to my failure to look up the rules before I started but I just need it to pass Friday Street Nights lol. Pay no mind to the date on the camera, I'm too lazy to change it. Just finished the cage last weekend.

This was my first time ever attempting a cage and it wasn't that bad. I've only been welding here and there for two years now, so it could have been much better. My welder is also a 140hd that plugs into a regular wall socket. I tripped the breaker about 5 times lol and the light bill went up quite a bit haha. There was minimal trimming of the pieces and I was pleased with the notches and bends. They also have super fast shipping. They make their kits to order and I recieved mine about 7 days total(including the weekend) after I made the order. No complaints here.

I was reading somewhere that your harness bar needed to be no more than 4" below your shoulders, so that the harness won't pull down on your spine if a collision occurs. I haven't measured mine but It looks to be about 8" below my harness slots on my seat. Also with the new NHRA rules I am good to 9.99 ONLY if my mph does not exceed 135. Anything over that and I need a 10 point....LOL

I wouldn't worry too much. They see the cage and they will let you slide. Most tech at official events are not even that strict on cage inspection or 5 pt harnesses.
